The fantasy world of dragons and knights in shinning armor has always been a deep rooted passion of mine. In high school I was introduced to the Live Action Role Playing culture (LARP) and found that this mix of the Renaissance Fair with Dungeons and Dragons was the next best thing. In college while writing my thesis project for class, I also wrote up a business plan for a LARP of my very own. My hope was some day build a LARPing company unlike any other. However over the years I have found that although I may never own my own LARP, I could still help the LARPing community come into the modern age with a better web presence.
The app is a PHP backend with an AngularJS front end, Laravel API being built for Northbay LARP. My goal is to build a clean application that features user logins with various levels of authorization, a platform for user generated content, online editable character sheets, administrative reports, and best of all an API that can be utilized by other LARPing companies. With this application the hope is to not only modernize LARPs on the web, but help build the LARPing community as a whole to have a strong overall social presence, and grow the community.
Refer Me was an application idea from Brandon and Stephen two product managers from General Assembly. I was invited to join their team with another Web Developer and UX Designer from General Assembly’s alumni and together in three weeks time Refer Me went from concept, through testing, to a live application.
(Ruby, Rails, Postgres) The MVP for Refer Me allows for both the referral source (Sourcer) and the person looking to be referred (Candidate) to create a profile and search for one another. Companies often pay hefty referral bonuses on hires sourced by their employees, so employees can sign up with Refer Me and indicate that they are willing to speak to and potentially refer interested parties. On the candidate side, if they know of a company they are interested in/role they are looking at, but don’t know anyone within that company/industry, they can search and see how many potential sourcers are on the network and contact directly in order to open up a dialogue. This would allow for us to create opportunity on both the employer and potential employee side by facilitating "informational interviews" with the intent of a referral.
